Warriors Have Strong Showing in WCAL Opener

Baylands Park, Sunnyvale - Just four days after the Stanford Invitational the Warriors came back strong competing in the first league meet of the season.  The boys were led by Eyobed Mesfun (17:50) finishing in 22nd place.  Ashley Lara (21:33) was the top finisher for the girls in 20th.

The JV Girls were led by Shannon Luu (22:47) who finished 5th in the JV race helping the team to a 3rd place finish.  The JV Boys were led by Alex Ascencio, leading the team to a 6th place finish.

The 5k course was lengthened so there would be no interference with the start and finish line.  Early estimations have the course at 3.2 miles making the Warriors marks even more impressive.

"I could not be prouder of how the team competed and got after it today," Coach Small said after the race.  "It doesn't matter if the course is short or long or right on. What matters is we deliver on the day we have to. Every trial we overcome, everything we learn along the way is all in preparation so we can put all of our effort into one 3 mile race at the end of the season when it counts the most. Today they should feel like they did a good job, and rightfully so."

The Warriors compete in the Clovis and Artichoke Invitationals this weekend.
