Mountain View, CA - The Valley Christian Track & Field team competed in the WCAL Trials Saturday. The Warriors advance athletes in every event contested.
Highlighting the day was a sweep in the throws as Valley Christian has the top seed in the four varsity events. The lady Warriors finished 1-2-3 in both the shot put and the discus led by Elena Bruckner, who is the top seed in both. Dylan McCreery is the top seed in the shot put with a mark of 50-4. Max Moore is the top seed in the discus, matching his personal best 152-7.
Charlie Bostic leads the sprints as the top seed in the 100 and 200 meters in the Frosh-Soph division. Nick Trofort also won his heat of the 100 & 200 to move on as an automatic qualifier.
D'Angelo McKenzie lowered his personal best for the fourth consecutive week in the 110 hurdles and enters the finals as the top seed. Running into a slight -0.3 headwind McKenzie finished in 15.44 and remains undefeated in league action this season. Also advancing in the 110 hurdles is Jonathon Sum; Daniel Lin advances in the Frosh-Soph 65 hurdles.
Nedu Ndili led a slew of personal bests in the 800 meters winning his heat in a personal best 1:57.67. Cameron Lockard (2:05), Sam Cuevas (2:08) and Francisco Hererra (2:13) all bettered their lifetime best, as did Preston Nguyen (2:09), Jake DeMoss (2:15), Ryan Morton (2:21) and Jacob Reese (2:27) in the Frosh-Soph division.
Caitlyn Rowland and Kayla Nanez advance in the 400 meters. Rowland also advances in the 300 Hurdles.
Advancing in the 100 hurdles is Jessica Hanjojo; Yvonne Ma advances in the long jump.
Six athletes move on in the 800 meters, all with season bests. Vanessa Zenere ran a personal best 2:27 to lead the girls middle distance. Kiko Li (2:33) and Kailey Eddy (2:35) also advance. In the Junior Varsity division Sophia Patterson (2:34), Ashley Clayton (2:34) and Hannah Theaker (2:35) also punched their ticket to Friday's finals.
In all there were 32 season bests on the day, highlighting a strong showing by the Warriors heading into the WCAL Championship. The WCAL Finals are Friday, May 13 at Saint Francis High School. Field events start at 3 pm, running events at 5 pm.
