Season Bests Fall at Dublin Distance Fiesta

Dublin, CA - The Dublin Distance Fiesta is an all-day distance extravaganza featuring nearly 2000 athletes from 86 schools. For more than 12 hours athletes compete in just four distance events: 800, 1600, 3200 and the Distance Medley Relay. Over the years Dublin has become the place to run fast times early in the season. In 2016 an incredible 55 boys dipped under 10 minutes in the 3200 meters… and even more amazingly three of them under 9 minutes.

It was a strong day for the Warriors that saw some impressive debuts and numerous personal bests.

Girls 3200
Leia Wang had the top mark of the day for the girls with a 12:47 finish. Running 6:17 the first mile she held strong to close with a 6:30 second half. Moving up steadily throughout the race Wang was among the leaders heading into the last lap where she held on to win a coveted top finisher t-shit as a top 3 finisher. It was an impressive debut for the senior who was running the event for the first time.

It was also the first 3200 meters for freshman, Mackenzie Thomas. The Warrior's cross country runner of the year (and varsity swimmer) finished in 13:07. Also running the 3200 meters was Hannah Theaker (13:55) and Sandhya Bellary (14:50).

Boys 3200
Joe Renati was the top finisher on the boys side finishing in 10:05. It was a breakthrough performance for the sophomore, improving by 30 seconds over his previous lifetime best. Running even split 5:02 miles, Renati held steady with a front pack that consistently held 76 second laps. With a strong last lap of 71 seconds Renati moves to #3 all-time in team history.
