Alum Rock Park, San Jose - The energy was unable to be contained as the rain fell on the Junior High Cross Country Division Championship resulting in a record breaking day for the Warriors. For the first time in school history the 8th grade boys qualified for the section finals led by a school record by Mathew Weeks and a complete team effort that resulted in a 3rd place finish for the Warriors.
The Lady Warriors also were stellar as Carly Trent finished #2 all-time for the Warriors running 16:04, second only to Jennifer Bergman, currently a two-time All-America and top runner for the University of Arizona. Trent was in a three way battle for the win that was separated by less than 2 seconds. Battling through the finish Trent ended with a dramatic sprint that saw her finish 2nd in the 7th grade girls race.
Oryann Addison ran away from the competitors in the C-Girls race dominating the field with nearly a 45 second victory. She led an impressive performance as the C-girls advance to the section championship next Thursday at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy.
"I was so excited after yesterday’s race that I couldn’t get to sleep until 2:30 in the morning," Coach Estorga said following the excitement of yesterdays action. “21 of 31 runners reached personal best times for Alum Rock which is such a testimony to the runners hard work and determination to improve throughout the season."
"On a personal note, There is something special that happens to the human mind, body, and soul when we overcome obstacles and achieve personal/team goals. What a blessing to guide these runners into a true love for running and lifetime fitness,"
