The Valley Christian Warriors took the long drive up to Golden Gate Park to face off against WCAL rivals Wednesday.
Leading the charge for the Varsity Boys was Ryan Ensor who ran the modified 3.03 mile course in 18:00, his best time of the year and currently #4 on the Warriors all-time list. Starting out in 5:38 for the first mile he competed well with some of the best teams in CCS and WCAL be finishing 31st. Alex Ascencio (19:29)was the Warriors #2 runner of the day and was followed closely by Dustin Laucella (19:34). Andrew McCann and Ross MArtinez rounded out the Varsity scoring which finished 8th, just 2 points behind Riordan.
In the Boys Frosh-Soph race Alex George set the team's freshman record for the course running 19:55.
Representing the Varsity Girls was Morgan Rosa-Diniz. Running a personal best of 21:50 she placed 31st in the highly competitive race which featured 6 schools currently ranked in the San Jose Mercury News top 15 poll.
The Frosh-Soph girls race featured two Warriors leading the pack through 2.5 miles that results in top 5 finishes. Kellianne Connolly and Jessica Xu were side by side through 2.5 mile setting a grueling pace for the 3 mile race. The pace eventually took it's toll but they held on nicely to both finish with personal bests for the season. Connolly finished 4th in 21:09, currently #8 on the all-time list which Xu's 5th place finish in 21:13 is #10 all-time. They were joined by an outstanding performances from Karen Mac (22:29), Shannon Luu (22:56) and Megan Gillespie (23:05) which helped the team to a 3rd place finish.
The Varsity team travels to Fresno this Saturday to compete in the Clovis Invitational, held on the same course as the California State Championship.
