Meet the Team: Shannon Luu

We continue our "Meet the Team" interview series with Freshman Shannon Luu. Shannon (pictured on the right with her teammate Karen Mac) had a huge breakthrough at the Early Bird Invitational September 10th running 22:36 for three miles, which is currently the 21st fastest in team history for the Toro Park course. She has shown huge potential for the future and is a rising star in the Valley Christian cross country program. Coming from Chaboya Middle School in San Jose, Shannon is in her first year running and not only has an apatite for success but for good food as well (except for salad!)

Q: When did you start running? What inspired you to try cross country?

I started running cross country this year. Karen convinced me to join the team since she didn’t know anyone on the team the first day.

Q: What was your first race? Describe you experience.

My first race was the practice race in Santa Cruz.
I was really hungry so when I was done I ate like 15-20 pieces of watermelon!

Q: What do you like about running cross country?

I like running with teammates, especially Wade because he screams a lot!

Q: What are some of your favorite and/or toughest workouts?

My favorite workout is at Almaden Lake Park because of the playground & water showers / fountains.

Q: Favorites: XC race? XC course? Track race distance? Track meet? Competitor(s)?

My favorite race was Early Bird Invitational though my favorite course is Alum Rock Park. My favorite competitor to race is my teammate Karen Mac. She is a great runner and I just try to keep up with her!
