Backyard Bash Kicks Off 2018 Season

San Jose, CA - The Backyard Bash kicked off the Track & Field season for the third consecutive year as Valley Christian hosted Willow Glen and Andrew Hill in Warrior Stadium.

The track & field version of the Backyard Bash is inspired from Andrew Hill coach Jason Guven who hosts an annual "neighborhood" run at Hellyer Park during the cross country season. Both meets have become something athletes from all teams look forward to and had become a fun tradition to kick off the year. "Our kids have been looking forward to this meet all week," Willow Glen's Coach Santamaria commented after the meet.

One unique quality of the "Bash" is that music plays throughout the meet and during races.  The festive atmosphere is intended to ease some early season jitters while getting athletes ready for upcoming meets. While the low-key atmosphere can help ease the nerves it had little effect on the competitiveness of the evening. Handoffs were a little shaky but there were some outstanding marks as three relay teams finished with a time ranking in the top 3 in school history.
