Top Marks Highlight Dan Gabor Distance Invitational

The distance crew opened their season the night prior under the lights at the Dan Gabor Invitational in Pleasanton.  By the end of the night, of 16 runners competing, the distance squad walked away with seven top three finishes, twelve personal bests and many others just seconds away from a lifetime best!

Girls 800 Meters

Hannah Lee and Annie Yeh kicked off the night shattering expectations as both ran to top three finishes in their heat winning the coveted top finisher shirt.  Both started fast and ended just on the cusp of a sub 3 finish with Hannah Lee finishing in 3:01 while Annie Ye finished 3:00, respectably. Vanessa Giacalone made it a sweep for the Warriors with a top finish ofher own.  The freshman had a spectacular debut finishing the 800 in 2:40.

Boys 800 meters

It was an evening of breakthroughs for the boys middle distance crew.  First up was Francisco Herrera who put on a spectacular finishing kick to finish top 5 in his race in the personal best time of 2:36.  Paul James and Wilson Ye also had strong starts to their season finishing where they left off a year ago finishing in 2:36 and 2:34. Perhaps one of the largest improvements of the day came from Inigo Garcia.  Garcia finished in 2:20, a 12 second improvement from a year ago and sprinted to a top three finish and at-shirt to show for it.  Joining him onthe podium was Michael Min, who in his first ever track race finished in an impressive 2:17.

Girls 3200 Meters

All three girls in the 3200 meters were in the 12 minute range showing impressive depth for the Warriors.  Kellianne Connolly fought through a fast first mile and managed to hold on to finish in 12:58, just six seconds off her personal best.  Two more impressive performances came from Kailey Eddy and Jessica Xu.  Eddy was part of the lead pack from the gunin her heat and finished 2nd in her heat in personal best 12:09.  Jessica Xu was in the Championship and led much of the chase pack through a blistering first mile of5:45.  Xu held on to finish in 12:04, a15 second improvement over last season!

Boys 3200 Meters

All four boys in the 3200 meters ran personal bests.  Peter Enfantino and Sam Han joined the sub 12club running 11:52 and 11:54, respectably. Alex Ascencio (10:52) and Eyobed Mesfun (10:22) both placed on the team’s all-time list with marks.
