Sophomore Jennifer Bergman continued her breakout season qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters last weekend. Bergman used the same strategy in the 5,000 meters as she did in the 10,000-meter run, sticking at the tail end of the lead group and letting other athletes drop off the pace until coming to the stretch. She then used her kick down the final straightaway to pull away from Wichita State's Aliphine Tuliamuk and finish in 16:05.04 in fifth overall to automatically advance to Iowa. It was the second-fastest time of Bergman's career and she became the second Wildcat on the weekend to qualify for the finals in two events.
