Morgan Lira and Emily Blaha Run Tough at State Championship!

Fresno, CA - Cross Country took center stage in Fresno Saturday as it hosted the California State Championship that featured over 2000 of the fastest runners in the state. The weather was perfect for fast times with temperatures in the high 40’s and the Warriors took advantage.

Valley Christian runners Morgan Lira and Emily Blaha battled admirably in one of the most competitive fields ever seen at the State Championship.  Morgan Lira blazed the first mile in 5:39 and held on to lead the Warriors with a 33rd place finish in 18:55.  Emily Blaha opened her race with a 5:58 first mile and placed 67th in 19:27, a life-time best by over 5 seconds.

Carrie Verdon, a junior from Campolindo High School, took control of the race from the start and won the Division 3 girls race in a state meet record of 17:15.  Campolindo also won the team title in the D3 race.

Blaha and Lira will compete in the Footlocker West Regional this Saturday at Mt. Sac in Walnut, CA.  States competing in the West Regional include Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and U.S. Citizens in Overseas Military Installations.
