McCann Leads Varsity at Central Park Invitational

The Valley Christian Warriors faced off against local south bay schools in the 2010 running of the Central Park Invitational in Santa Clara Tuesday.

After a tough run at the Stanford Invitational, just 3 days prior, Ryan Ensor had some redemption as he placed in the top 10 in the Frosh-Soph division. Ensor finished the 2.3 mile race in 13:36, well under 6 minute per mile pace over the course.

Having an outstanding race in his own right was Andrew McCann who Led the team in the Varsity race with a time of 14:47. McCann had been improving dramatically and taken a huge leadership role lately helping the Warriors in scoring and intensity in team workouts. "Andrew has taken on a leadership role and is an essential part of our varsity boys team," coach Small said after the race.

Once again temperatures soared to triple digits and it hit some athletes hard. Finishing third for the Warriors was Dustin Laucella, “I feel like I maxed out,” he said after the race. “I pushed it the whole way. That heat was just brutal.” Rounding out the scoring team for the Warriors was Alex Ascencio and Jontom Phan.

For the girls, a trio of freshman led the way in their race. Karen Mac and Megan Gillespie medaled placing in the top 20 running a mid to low 7 minute per mile average. Showing amazing heart and determination Shannon Luu fought through severe cramping and an upset stomach and powered through her race to finish third for the Warriors. Aileen Ma and first year runner Taylor Massey also did outstanding running together rounding out the scoring team!
