Alumni News: Bergman wins Silver for USA at NACAC

Jennifer Bergman, a two-time all-America in cross country and track for the University of Arizona, represented the USA and earned a silver medal in the 5000 meters at the 2012 NACAC (North America, Central America and Caribbean) Under 23 Track and Field Championships at Paralympic Track Stadium in Guanajuato, Mexico. She also finished 5th in the 1500 meters.

Bergman has continued to blossom into one of the elite women distance runners in the country. As a sophomore Bergman burst onto the scene finishing 3rd in the 10,000 meters at the 2011 NCAA Division 1 Championship.  She followed that up this fall leading Arizona to their third straight appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championship where she earned All-America honors. This spring she finished 2nd in the Pac 12 at 10,000 meters and 12th at the NCAA Championship. In March she ran a personal best at the Stanford Invitational (33:10) earning the Olympic Trials B Standard in the process.

Graduating from Valley Christian in 2009, Bergman won three Individual Cross Country Championships and was named the San Jose Mercury News Runner of the Year in 2008.
