Another School Record For Davis, This Time 800 meters!

Azuza, CA- Sean Davis traveled to Southern California to compete in the Meet of Champions at Azuza Pacific University Saturday.  Davis finished runner-up in the 800 meters setting a school record in the process with a time of 1:54.59.

Davis' time is currently the top time in the section and is ranked #3 in the state but he still sees room for improvement.  "My strategy was to take it out in 4th or 5th place like it did, but still keep in contact with the leaders," Davis said of his strategy heading into the race.  "I needed to keep the gap between me and the top 2-3 guys much smaller then I let it get because in a fast race like this, I can't expect to close a 20m gap."

The pace at the start of the race was quick, a blistering 25 seconds for the leader at 200 meters.  Davis was sitting right where he wanted to be but with erratic surges in the first 500 meters of the race Davis was left chasing the leaders.  With a big move in the final lap he moved into 2nd on the back stretch and held that comfortably to the finish.  Still, the Senior has his sights on the big picture and is looking forward to bigger meets coming up in the months ahead.

"Azusa was a great chance for me to get some experience in a competitive, fast 800. Its also nice to see that I can hang with some of the best now too."
