2011 Men's Cross Country Team Awards

Runner of the Year: Sean Davis
Sean Davis rewrote the record books for Valley Christian Cross Country this season becoming the first runner in school history to win the CCS individual championship. Davis set team records for every course he raced this season including Steve Wheeler's 1985 record at Crystal Springs, the oldest record on the books.  He was named to the San Jose Mercury News All-County team and received "second team" All-CCS honors.

Warrior Award: Derek Seaman
Derek demonstrated leadership throughout the season and incredible selflessness sacrificing his last race of his high school career to pace a teammate to his personal best.  Running a personal best on Crystal Springs just two weeks prior, Derek came down with a cold just days before the WCAL Championship and wasn't feeling his best.  Instead of not running he approached the coaching staff asking to pace Senior Josh Profio so he can help him run his best in his last race. His leadership and selflessness signifies what it means to be a good teammate and is the core of what it means to be a Warrior.

Warrior Award: Eyobed Mesfun
It may have been his first year of cross country but Mesfun entered the season focused and with a mindset of a veteran.  Mesfun's work ethic set the tone for the Warriors this season which was the best ever in school history.  Scoring in every race he ran he helped the Warriors to better every combined team time record they raced this fall. Improving by more than a minute his best race came at the WCAL Championship where he ran 17:38 on the hilly Crystal Springs course. His strong work ethic and focus is an example to the entire team and deserving of this year's Warrior Award

Most Improved: Dustin Laucella
Dustin Laucella is one of the most passionate runners on the team laying it all on the line each and every race.  He gives all of himself, without regret.  Each and every race the team captain led by example and took his racing to the limit and was rewarded with his best cross country season in his 4 years.  Laucella improved nearly a minute over last season and was consistently one of the top runners on this year's record breaking team.  Laucella ran his best race of the season at the WCAL meet where he ran the Crystal Springs course in 18:35.

Freshman of the Year: Samuel Han
Samuel Han entered the season and has improved steadily throughout the season. He finished as the top freshman for the Warriors at the WCAL Championship where he ran his best time of the season.  Han has showed amazing work ethic training along side teammate Paul James in the off season with the goal to improve and potentially be a contributor to the Varsity team next season.
