Morgan Lira & Isabel Garcia Named Girls' Team Captains

Morgan Lira and Isabel Garcia have been named the Girls' Cross Country Team Captains for the 2011 season.

Morgan Lira has been a leader on the team and in the community since joining the Warriors as a freshman.  As an athlete she enters every race with tenacity and an expectation she will compete for the win.  Always one to run one more mile or one more interval her work ethic is one to be emulated.  As last year's top runner for Valley Christian she became only the second athlete in school history to win the individual WCAL Cross Country title.  Off the track Morgan has also taken the initiative to start community outreach projects for team providing care packages for the homeless and poor.  A dedicated, hard working student-athlete Lira has grown in her leadership and enters her second year as a team Captain.

Isabel Garcia has been one of the most consistent runners for the Warriors the past three years and has qualified for the State Championships in both cross country and track & field.  Isabel has a knack for coming on strong at the end of the season and finished last season as the Warrior's #3 runner despite a hamstring injury that knocked her out most of the season.  She is in the top 5 all-time marks for the State Championship course at Woodward Park in Fresno where she ran 19:38 for 5k.  Isabel is also a leader in the classroom with a 4.14 GPA as well as in the community.  She actively serves in her church and has been a volunteer at a local senior center.  This fall she will be a part of the community outreach program this fall that will help tutor students at a local elementary school.

The team will depend on their leadership throughout the season as the girls look to improve on last year's 6th place finish at the WCAL and CCS Championships.
