Girls Set School Record Mark in 4 x 800 Meter Relay

Karen Mac, Jessica Xu, Morgan Lira & Emily Blaha
The story of the day at the Stanford Invitational was the constant rain, which fell heavily throughout the morning and into the afternoon.  For the Warriors the highlight came from Shelby Smallwood who finished 3rd in the 100 meters and Bryon Houp's top 10 finish in the 400 meters.

Another strong performance came from the girls 4 x 800 meter relay as they set the school record with a time of 10:09.94. "We have never put together a 4 x 800 meter relay and Stanford always has great competition so it was the perfect race to give it a try," Coach Small said.  "The freshman stepped up nicely and they all went after it.  I am very pleased with the result."

The lady Warriors battled top competition from Northern California and saw some outstanding individual runs.  The lead-off leg of Morgan Lira had a quick start and held on to run a first leg split of 2:27.  A pair of freshman were next up as Karen Mac (2:37) and Jessica Xu (2:34) split just under their season best while Emily Blaha made up ground on the competition anchoring the team with a 2:30 split.

"It was a lot of fun but seemed really short," Emily Blaha said.  "Now they have something to try and beat next year!"
